I am trying to locate any Ascroft families that has a Charles Walmer Ascroft or he may have used the name with Harcourt in it.
He was born in Africa about 1895 and married first in 1912 Cecil Violet Enid Greville it is believed they came back to England in 1913 and possibly lived on his cousins estate of Ankerwycke in a house called Longfield,Wraysbury for a few years, his cousin was named Capt Guy Elliot Harcourt of Ankerwycke Lord of the Manor of Wraysbury.
It has been indicated Charles was in fact the son of Otto Simon Henry Harcourt of the Noble family of Harcourt who assumed the name of Ascroft to enable him to inherit the Gold Mines at Blaaubank,Africa from his Father in Law James Ascroft b1834 Philadelphia. In 1913 at the tender age of 17 Charles Walmer(Harcourt)Ascroft inherited shares of the Gold mines at Blaaubank but soon after mysteriously dissapeared from the face of the Earth abandoning his wife and her son born 1916 named Peter Charles Algernon Greville Ascroft who where living in Wraysbury.
What happened to this man,was he killed or did he start another family somewhere else in the UK or Overseas.
Do any Ascrofts come from the Barnes area as I heard an old gentleman turned up in 1986 aged in his 90s to the Ankerwycke Estate proporting to say he was the missing son of the Harcourts.
Have a good look at your Ascroft family trees and see if any of this written rings a bell.
