I hope I can help put this mess together. It is a real sticky one for me.
------------------------------------------
From Ed Eshbach:
The earliest documented record of any Eschbach in North America was that of John (Johannes) Eschbach in 1728 at New Hanover Township, Philadelphia (now) Montgomery County, Pa.John and his brother, Frederick, were the first Eschbach family to migrate to America. Both Johh and his brother are recorded living in Montgomery Co Pa in the 1750's... The origins of the family is probably found in the Aargua, Switzerland as Aeschbach.
------------------------------------------
This is where fact begins to part from Ed's genealogy of this line.He insists on tying it to mine here for several poor reasons, listing the children of my immigrant ancestor (Henry Ashbaugh) as John's children. The list is quite different, however as I have learned from studying the church records of this family.I had a suspicion that it was where your's came from, but in many years of research I have not been able to make a definitive tie.
I became interested in this line when following Duermyer's work on the Fairfield/ Perry Co., OH. Ashbaugh lines. He listed your Jacob, Jr. as a son of John Ashbaugh formerly of Huntingdon Co., PA.His confusion came from the names of his wife and that of another Jacob Ashbaugh (son of John of Huntingdon) both being Mary.He assumed that Perry Co., OH records of Jacob (son of Jacob were actually of Jacob, son of John.I am sure that the unlikelihood of two Jacob Ashbaughs in Perry Co., OH in 1821 contributed to his error as well, but Jacob, son of John, had already left that area to settle in northern KY, the preogentor of a large Ashbaugh line there.
Children I have found in the church records from Falckner Swamp Reformed Congregation, New Hanover Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, 1748-1854:
John - confirmation on Whit Sunday 1750
Jacob - confirmation on Whit Sunday 1750
Margaret - confirmation on Whit Sunday 1750
Jacob Phillip - baptised 14 March 1749
The records include MANY Antes and Hahn entries.
A more complete list assembled from various sources includes:
i)Frederick Eschbach b. about 1732 in Philadelphia (later Montgomery) Co.,
PA and d. 1771 in New Hanover, Montgomery Co., PA.
ii)Anna Margaretha Eschbachb. about 1735 in Philadelphia Co., PAd. after 1808 in New Hanover
iii)Johannes Eschbachb. about 1737 in Philadelphia Co., PA
iv)Jacob Eschbachb. about 1738 in Philadelphia Co, PA (likely your line)
v)Elizabetha Eschbach b. about 1748 (according to some info I found at LDS)b. 2/6/1734(according to copy of churchrecord handwritten in German)
vi) Johann Philip Eschbachb. about 1749 in New Hanover, Montgomery Co., PA christened 1749same place
I don't find Henry, George, or Catron yet, but that doesn't mean that they don't exist.
Really hope this helps a bit.I have a family group sheet for Jacob Ashbaugh and Mary Boyd. Please let me know what else you find about the New Hanover bunch and any relationship to your Jacob/ Jacob line.
