Oh yes, hundreds or thousands. The Chippewa tribe is the largest tribe in North America. They are everywhere, Canada, Michigan, Minn, probably Ohio, all around and further away from the Great Lakes.Let me tell you how our name has changed over the years. My grandfather (1920 Census) shows his name as "John An-ne-wausch", they tried to americanize it to Annawaush then to Ashing. My dad changed our last name to Ahshing because his elders told him they misinterpreted the Annawaush to Ashing.
My grandfathers parents were both born in Minnesota in the early 1800's per the 1920 Census.
Chippewa Indians may have migrated from the Eastern Coast many years ago, and also from Canada. There were many of them and alot of marriages on the Annawaush Trail.
I believe our roots in 1800's are related to "Maude Kegg" who used to be a Annawaush. Her Grandmother was Mary Rose Annawaush, abt 1873, a sister to my grandfather.
