Hello Shelby
I am sure you are looking in the right area, Cambridgeshire as I think that a large majority came from hear and the first Asplin noted in England is in the 12th Century was in Holywell. The village I live in, the said "Holywell-cum-Needingworth". Funny I'm sure some Asplin's have a gene to keep them hear near there ancestoral home in Cambridgeshire,England,
Thats my theory. Also a few years ago a lady who is researching her late husbands family tree of Asplin from Bedfordshire the county next to ours which also has the river ouse running through it rang me up for a chat & info and she said to me did you know our ancestors were Vikings, thats when I thought that with the stories my father used to tell me as a young girl were backed up really by this lady telling me that, she also said there were two brothers of Asplin(vikings) that they fell out one settled hear in Cambridgeshire and the other in Oxford?I've also came across another Haines who were witnesses to a marriage in Bluntisham next village to us about 2 mile away, Mary Haines and Edward Gossling were the witnesses to William Asplin senior and Mary Tebbutt in 1814.
I am sure Issac will turn up again as 1825 they were hopefully recording families etc, just got to find the right village which I am researching anyway so I will keep a look out for him for you so keep in touch. As for shipping ports to America My uncle said try Southampton, Liverpool and possibly port of London.
Speak to you soon Clare.
