There is quite a lot of information in England and we know where he was Baptised, the names of his siblings, the names of his parents, when his father died, where the family lived, the name of the House they lived in, who his paternal grandparents were, who his Pastor in England was (and under this mans leadership he went to New England).
We know the name of a relative who could be a maternal Uncle in which case we have a possible maiden name for his mother.
BUT, I never found a record for his marriage in England. I know that Humphrey had the Socio-economic rank of Gentleman and I am not surprised to learn that he served as an Army Officer, for this reason. Humphrey will have had no practical skills or trade. In England he will have lived of the rents from his property. He was a first son.
Much of this has been posted in my earlier notes on this site during the time that I was seeking information about his life in America.
I believe that a US national went to the great expense of employing the best Heraldic/ family history organisation in the UK and therefore I believe that person or persons in the US established which Cadet Branch of the Atherton Family Humphrey came from.
There is no doubt of the least degree that Humphrey was born in the Parish of Wigan, Lancashire and continued to live there during his early life.
His Pastor led a community of Puritans who worshiped in a small Church that stands to this day and is close to where I live. I could go on, but from memory all the above are FACTS.
