The original question was whether the Elizabeth, wife of Thomas Athey, md. abt 1718 and mother of his 11 children was actually Elizabeth Fenley as Larry Athey stated on p. 47 of his book or whether that Elizabeth was not a Fenley and Thomas married (2) Elizabeth Fenley, dau of Charles Fenley and Elizabeth Ann Harris, b. 26 May 1720. I have looked thru all my back research and cannot find any proof that Thomas Athey's wife Elizabeth was a Fenley other than the statement in Larry's book. Years ago I worked with Willis Finley who has researched the Finley/Fenley family extensively and his assumption was that Elizabeth who married Thomas Athey in about 1718 was sister to Charles Fenley, father of the Charles Fenley who married Elizabeth Harris. He tried extensively (without definitive success) to prove his assumption that Charles and Elizabeth were children of Robert Fenley, b. 1662 in Dundee, Fife, Scotland and d. 28 Jul 1716 in Oxford, Talbot, MD. Any enlightenment is appreciated.
