Clements Children Living with Thomas & Elizabeth Atkins, 1850 Tuscaloosa Co. AL
The Clements children living with Thomas and Elizabeth Atkins on the 1850 Tuscaloosa Co. AL Census were the children of Andrew Clements, son of Thomas Brenard Clements and Mary Evans.Andrew was a brother of Gabriel Clements who married Barsheba McGee, Joseph Clements who married Mary Bolton, Thomas Clements who married Anna Bolton, and Jacob Clements who married Luanna Busby.
Andrew was on the 1840 Tuscaloosa Co. AL living next to his father with his wife and children. On the 1850 Census he is a widower, living in household #1011 with Ezekiel and Martha Anders.
Two of his children, A. J. and Elizabeth, are living in household #1016 with William and Dicy Falls.Dicy was the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Atkins.
Two of his children, James and John, are living in household #1007 with Thomas and Elizabeth Atkins and their daughter Clarissa.
His son, Thomas Clements, is living in household #633 with William and Mary Cottrell.William is the son of Irenda Atkins, daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Atkins, and John Cottrell.William Cottrell married Mary Clements who I believe is Andrew's oldest child.
Andrew had another child, Edney Clements, and I have not found her on the 1850 Census, but she is on the 1860 Census married to John Madison and living in Walker County, AL.
In 1853, Andrew Clements married for a second time to Rebecca Madison, sister of John Madison who married his daughter, Edney.
Andrew Clements and his new wife Rebecca are listed on the 1860 Tuscaloosa Co. AL Census. The two children who were living with William and Dicy Falls on the 1850 Census and the two children who were living with Thomas and Elizabeth Atkins on the 1850 census are living with Andrew and Rebecca along with 3 children born to Andrew and Rebecca.Andrew and Rebecca moved with their family to Mississippi between 1860 and 1870.Andrew died in 1871 in Duck Hill, Montgomery Co. MS and Rebecca and her children then moved to Monroe Co. AR where Rebecca died in 1880.
Andrew's son, James (the 9 year old boy living with Thomas and Elizabeth Atkins on the 1850 Census) married Amanda Lou Madison about 1867 in Perry Co. TN.Amanda was a niece of Rebecca and John Madison.James and Amanda lived in Perry Co. TN until 1880 when James died and Amanda and her children moved to Walker Co. AL where most of her family were living.Amanda died in 1893 in AL.James and Amanda's children lived in Walker Co. and Fayette Co. AL.
Obviously there is a close relationship between Andrew Clements, his children and the family of Thomas and Elizabeth Atkins.I am trying to figure out if maybe his wife who died was one of the daughters of Thomas and Elizabeth.
I have researched this family and discovered that five of the girls - Irenda, Edna, Malinda, Dicey, and Elizabeth - were all married. One daughter, Clarissa, was still unmarried in 1850 and living with her parents. There was one other daughter, Charity, and there is no information about her.I am wondering if maybe she could have been the wife of Andrew who died.
If anyone has any information about Charity Atkins I would love to get it.
