I am searching for information related to the family history of Samuel Pinckney Atkins (b: 1857 d: 1938 m: 1879) who was married to Charlotte Malinda Ally and resided in Rockingham County, NC. Specifically: 1) who were his parents and 2) is it possible that he had a half brother by the name of Albert Jackson Atkins (aka:A.J., Albert, or Jack). A.J. Atkins was my g-grandfather by his second marriage. He was born in Rockingham County, but later moved to Alamance County where he lived/died while married to his 2nd wife Daisy Mitchell Atkins. Prior to A.J.’s1st marriage and subsequent divorce in Rockingham County, I have no ancestry information pertaining to my g-grandfather Jack except that "he had a brother Sam who lives near Reidsville" as was noted in his obituary.Neither his 1st family or 2nd family (my relations) know anything more about where he came from or who his family was. A.J. Atkins was born in 1861, Sam in 1857.A "Saml P. Atkins" is listed on the 1860 US Census living in Rockingham with a James Atkins (age 56).Based on my research this is the only “Sam” I was able to find in Rockingham County during this timeframe. From what I’ve been able to tell, I think this was a ‘mixed family’ situation as shown living with James Atkins on this particular census report.I know there were A LOT of Atkins/Adkins living in the area and I feel certain these two are related to this line, possibly descended from Daniel Atkins of Rockingham County.I have several items of information that are circumstantial, but I just can’t make a connection through documented sources. After A.J.’s birth in 1861 I have no record of him until his 1st marriage in 1883 to Angeline Witty in Rockingham County.I have his marriage certificate which is very difficult to read, but the Father’s name looks like “ ….. Lester” and the Mother’s name is “Sarah M ….”.The “M” could be “Matilda”.Sam Adkins’ marriage indicates no father, and his mother is listed as “Sarah M. Hill”. I would truly love any insight anyone can provide. Please contact me at the email shown or at Teresa.Burnap@duke-energy.com.Thanks, in advance!
