It has been my understanding that the surname LaPointe was adopted at Ile d'Orlean down the St. Lawrence River from Quebec City, when Nicolas Audet was in a shipwreck. That the surname LaPointe is purely Canadian.
the info I have on Nicolas Audet dit Lapointe is: he was the son of Innocent Audet and Reine VIncente from St. Pierre de maille, Poitou and he died Dec 10, 1700.He married at St. Jean, Ile d'Orleans on Sep. 15, 1670 to Madeleine Despres (daughter to Francois Despres and Madeleine LeGrand) from St. Saveur de paris, France. She died Dec 19, 1712.
