The following information seems sufficient to prove that St. Francis / Cross Co AR residents Samuel L. Austell b. 1809 SC and Richard Joseph Austell b. 1814 SC were sons of Joseph and Nancy Austell of Spartanburg District, SC.
Will of Joseph Austill, Sr. Recorded in Will Book B; page 37 Box I, pkg. 2 Recorded 23rd day of December 1824 in Spartanburg County, SC names wife Nancy, sons Samuel, Joseph, William, daughters Nancy, Catherine, Elizabeth Lovet, also names sons-in-law Walter Gilkey, James Austell, and Green A. Pennix.

Clanahan Publication, Carroliton, Alabama. p. 353
Samuel L. Austell came to Pickens County in 1837 from Spartanburg Dist., South Carolina and located at Carrollton; he formed a legal co-partnership with Gov. Samuel B. Moore, which continued until 1845, when they dissolved and Mr. Austell and Lemuel A. Gilkey entered into a partnership in the practice of law. In the latter part of 1845, Mr. Austell left Pickens and moved to the state of Arkansas, St. Francis County. He was twice elected State Senator for the districts composed of his county and several counties surrounding. When he lived in Pickens he was a candidate for the Legislature in 1843, but lost the election by a very few votes. He was a Democrat while in Pickens County, but became a member of the American Party in Arkansas.
Mr. Austell was the brother-in-law of Walter W. Gilkey, having married his sister, and was the uncle of Lemuel A. Gilkey, one of the former Probate Judges of Pickens.

Married in Carrolton, Pickens County, Alabama, by the Hon. Samuel B. Moore, Samuel L. Austell, formerly of Spartanburgh District, S. C., to Miss Caroline M., daughter of Isaac Wofford, Esq., formerly of Spartanburgh District also (ibid.).
Also in St. Francis Co AR, 1850 is Elizabeth Lovett, 56 b. SC living in household of Austell Lovett, 29 b. SC. I am confident that she is same Elizabeth Lovet mentioned in the will of Joseph Austill, Sr. of Spartanburg District, SC and therefore a sister of Samuel L. and Richard Joseph Austell who are also living in St. Francis Co AR 1850.
