Hi Karen,
Since we last spoke, the Canadian census has come 'on line'.I think this is only up to 1911, and am really having difficulty using it, but I'm sure experienced genealogists will be able to get in and make good use of it.
Further to my questions about our line, I now have the details I was looking for - and, as usual, more questions open up the more you 'know'.
Firstly, the line apparantely goes back from Canada Mildred Auten b 1915 Alberta(my mother)
Leonidas Auten b 1876 Nebraska
James Thatcher Auten b 1849 Ohio
James Wesley Auten b 1809 Pennsylvania
John W. Auten b 1783 Pennsylvania
He was married to Mary Miller b 1788 in PA - she was, apparantely, the daughter of John MILLER and Mary AUTEN.... does that make any sense to you? Both John W. and Mary died in Indiana. The line continues:
John J. Aten/Auten b 1765 Pennsylvania
Hendrick M. Aten b 1723 New Jersey (I saw a note on one web site that said Hendrick was ADOPTED... do you know anything about that?
Adriaen Aten b 1695
Thomas Aten b 1674
Adriaen Henddrickse Aten b 1615 - 1630
That's it.Let me know if you can add more?thanksnancy
