Auten married Alice Marshall Coe Auten on Nov. 30, 1898 and was divorced in 1915 following accusations of neglect and abuse by Mrs. Auten who stated in a news article of the day that "she was required to do housework when sick and to carry groceries for a long distance...She alleges several instances of assault...and charges that on April 15 he struck her in the neck with a roll of butter."The couple had three children, all deceased at early ages.
The Oberlin News of July 21, 1927 carried the wedding announcement for Andrew Auten of Oberlin and Frances Mosher of Huntington Park, CA (where she lived with her father) formerly of Wellington. The wedding took place July 2. The article reported that the couple would live near Atlanta, GA "where Mr. Auten has a profitable truck farm".
Real estate deeds at the Dekalb County GA Courthouse include Frances' name. Though not listed with Andrew in the 1930 GA census (she is listed in CA), her name is listed along with Andrew in the Atlanta City Directory in 1932 and again in 1937.Andrew maintained his residence in Decatur, GA and was listed in the 1938 directory without Frances. An undated editorial article in Decatur, GA reported that Auten had "disposed of his home in Decatur and had gone to live in southern California." A news article reported that he died suddenly on March 3, 1939 in Huntington, CA.
