I think that I can help you.I was very surprised to find so much information while just surfing the net. My name is Colleen Avey and I am married to Todd Avey.Todd's grand mother is Mirle Lawrence-Avey.Sterling was also Todd's grandfather. We have very little information regarding Sterling and his family and had no idea that he had ever been married prior to Mirle. Mirle is still alive 94 and she doesn't like to talk about the past much,so needless to say the Avey Family has been quite a mystery to us.
Mirle and Sterling had 5 children all boys.Bill, Chuck, Ken and Jake Avey. From what I have been told they migrated from the Oklahoma, Arkansas area as farmers and came across the country picking fruit, they were very poor. We really don't have any information about what happened to Sterling, what or when he died.Mirle and the kids settled in Sunnyvale,California in the late 40 or early 50s (not sure). She has been in the same house ever since. We were told that when Mirle passed away she would be laid to rest in Arkansas with Sterling. All the kids still live in No. CA. My husband's father is Jake Avey, named for his great grandfather (?).Jake had three kids with Karen Loman (now divorced) Jake Randall Avey Jr., Todd Avey and Melissa Avey.
What happened to Sterling's First wife and family?Do you have any idea why this has been kept such a secret?
This is what I have been told by my father in law not sure what percent is correct.Youmay be able to confirm. His Great -Grandfather was Jake Avey , who was full blooded Indian (Cherokee, we think). We have no idea where the Aveyname originated from, do you know? I guess from your note William would have been Jake's son? The family originated in Arkansas., Jakehad a silver mine that was taken by the government? We have no idea who Jake was married to or what nationality she was? We were also told that Jake killed 17 men for stepping on his property? We were never sure if these were just "stories".
We would love to hear what information that you have on the Avey's.If you have any questions please feel free to email me.I would love to share info and solve the Avey family mystery.
