I have been unable to find any proof (because that's what we all should be posting on sites like this, not rumour or hearsay, or what we'd LIKE TO BELIEVE) of ANY John de Babington of 1220, and certainly NOTHING that suggests the Babington family came to England with William the Conqueror. The Mormon 'sealed' ancestors of this family are peppered with mistakes - Saint Michael will be very confused on Judgement Day. I advise all seekers of the truth to be a little more sceptical in their approach to 'discovered' lost ancestors. I wait, eagerly for PROOF, not a 1938 so-called family tree of dubious scholarship, however well intended. The truth may take a little longer, and more research, but the results will be just as interesting. And there probably never was a Bavington Castle either - just a Pele Tower, long since gone. I was in the Bavington (Northumberland)area a few weeks ago, and I'm certain this is where the Babington family came from. Watch this space. I'd love to hear from anyone with REAL facts(i.e. backed up with proven documents / named sources)to share about pre-13th century Babington family members.
