Sudden Death of Well Known Orwin Residence
Frank Batdorf, age 68 yrs, 3m and 12 days, one of Porter Township, most highly respected citizen, died very suddenly, Thursday afternoon, Dec. 9,1920 as a result of a hemorrhage of the nose. His sudden death came as a great shock to his family and many friends.
Mr. Batdorf, besides his dwelling at Orwin, owned a strip of land near Kalmia Mountain in the rear of the Hand Farm south of Orwin. He engaged teamster, George Heberling to go with him for a load of wood. They were returning with the wood and while coming through the Hand farm he was seized with a violent spell of coughing. Blood flowed from his nose. Mr Heberling assisted him from the wagon. The coughing continued and he lay down on some boards. Dr. Stutzman was summoned but before he arrived Mr. Batdorf had breathed his last.
Mr. Batdorf resided at Orwin the greater part of his life. He was known to almost every man, woman, and child in the upper part of the valley and was greatly loved by all.
He was one of the organizers and a faithful supporter of the Union Sunday School in the west end or Orwin.
His grief stricken widow and the following children survived: John of Muir; Mrs Charles Adams, Mrs Harry Neidlinger, Charles of Reinerton; Joseph, David, and Harry. Also several stepbrothers and stepsister.
The Funeral was held on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from his late home at Orwin and was one of the largest ever held in that community. Service were conducted by Rev. Slinghoff in the Union church. Interment was made in the U.B.Cemetery.
The sons served as pall bearers.
I'm still looking for descendants to this family . Frank and Fannie were my 2x great Uncle and Aunt.
If anyone has any information on the above names I would like to hear from you.
I hope I hear from from you,
Sharman Meck Carroll
