Descendants of Jacques Badeau
Generation No. 1
1.Jacques1 Badeau was born about 1615 in St. Sauveur, La Rochelle, Aunis, France, and died 17 Aug 1658 in Québec City, QC.He married Anne Hardouin/Ardouin about 1631 in La Rochelle, Aunis, France, daughter of Jehan Ardouin and Anne Mouchard. She was born about 1615 in La Rochelle, Aunis, France, and died 11 Oct 1670 in Beauport, QC.
Notes for Jacques Badeau:
On 22 Apr 1647, he signed a work contract in La Rochelle, France to work as a cattleman for the Jesuits, in the Seigniory Our-Lady-of-Angels.Two of their five children were born in France. He died before the first census were taken in New France in 1666.Jacques widow Anne Hardouin was recorded as being 52 in the 1667 census at Notre Dame des Anges.
Children of Jacques Badeau and Anne Hardouin/Ardouin are:
2 i. Francois2 Badeau, born 10 Aug 1632 in Ste. Marguerite of La Rochelle, Aunis, France; died Bef. 1667 in QC.
3 ii. Madeleine Badeau, born 24 Apr 1634 in Ste. Marguerite of La Rochelle, Aunis, France.
4 iii. Jeanne Badeau, born about 1638 in Ste. Marguerite of La Rochelle, Aunis, France; died 22 Nov 1706 in Beauport, QC.She married Pierre Parent 09 Feb 1654 in Québec City, QC; born about 1626 in Mortagne sur Gironde, Saintes, Saitonge, France; died 05 Aug 1698 in Beauport, QC.
Notes for Jeanne Badeau:
She arrived in New France with her parents and siblings in 1647, when her father signed a contract to work in New France. She was about 9 at that time.
Jeanne was about 16 when she got married and had 18 children 1655 and 1683, when she was about 43 years old.She had triplets, the exact date of their birth has not been found, however they were listed as being 7 years old in the 1681 census.Jeanne also had a set of twins, Jean and Joseph. These twins had a double wedding and married Belanger sisters. The twins died within two months of each other and both atHôtel Dieu ( this was the Québec City hospital for the very sick and dying at the time).
In the 1681 Beauport census her name was spelt"Badault".Whether it was spelt Badeau or Badault, the pronunciation was the same.
Notes for Pierre Parent:
He was from Mortagne on the Gironde, in the old province of Saintonge, about 1638. It is a commune in Charente Maritime today, in the Saintes district, in the south-east of Royan, in France.Pierre Parent was the son of Andre Parent and Marie Coudrey or Coudré.He signed a three year contract to work in New France and arrived at Beauport about 1650.Pierre could not sign his name so he assigned someone to sign for him.He was a master butcher.I am surprised that he never obtained the "dit name" (nickname ) of Boucher.Perhaps he did not wish to take on this dit name because there were about 6 other Bouchers in Canada at the time.
Pierre Parent married Jeanne Badeau in Beauport onFebruary 9, 1654 in the house of Sieur Giffard.
His age varies in different census. In 1667 they recorded him as being 50 years old.In 1681 at Beauport, he was a butcher listed as being 55 years old with 13 Children (Joseph, Jean and Etienne were 7 year old triplets), 4 domestic workers, 4 rifles, 1 hand gun, 18 horned animals, 24 goats and he owned 100 arpents of land (about 150 English acres). This couple is very prolific. They eventually had eighteen children, of which fifteen carried out twenty-two marriages.
Pierre Parent died on Tuesday, August 5, 1698 and was buried the following day at Beauport. His wife Jeanne Badeau died on November 22, 1706, she was also buried at the cemetery of Beauport.
5 iv. Jean Badeau, born about 1641 in Ste. Marguerite of La Rochelle, Aunis, France; died 26 Aug 1711 in Québec City, QC.He married Marguerite Chalifour 28 Oct 1665 in Québec City, QC; born 23 Apr 1652 in Québec City, QC; died 28 Dec 1705 in Québec City, QC.
6 v. Suzanne Badeau, born 18 Aug 1651 in Québec City, QC; died Dec 1669 in Beauport, Montmorency, QC.She married Jean Rainville 26 Jul 1665 in Québec City, QC; born about 1638 in St. Thomas de Touques, Lisieux, Normandie, France; died 14 Nov 1704 in Hôtel Dieu de Québec City, QC.
Notes for Suzanne Badeau:
She signed a marriage contract to marry Mathurin Normandin written on 1 May 1659 notary Audouart. It was annulled.
