Cousin,
Yes, I think that my Millie is your Emelia. She shows up 10 years later in the 1860 census as Millie.
Evidently, Davenport/Deavenport Baker died between 1850 and 1860.His wife, Rachel Baker, shows up in the 1860 Avery Creek, Buncombe County, NC Census as "Widow on Farm".A lot of the other Baker relatives also moved to Buncombe County. I don't know if Davenport died before or after this migration.
One thing I wonder about the 1850 Yancy County census is that the two sons, Jesse and Thomas, are listed before the wife Rachel, and then the other three daughters are listed after Rachel.Normally, the wife is listed right after the husband. Was Davenport a widower with two sons before he married Rachel?
Anyhow, the 1860 Buncombe NC Census lists Rachel as the head of household:
BAKER, Rachel39FWidow on Farm
BAKER, Jessi17M
BAKER, Thos15M
BAKER, Millie12F
BAKER, Milton9M
BAKER, Saml7M(my ggrandfather)
1870 Buncombe NC Census
BAKER, Rachel42?F(I might have read age incorrectly)
BAKER, Milton18M
BAKER, Samuel14M
1880 Buncombe NC Census
BAKER, Rachel61F
Next door to Rachel
BAKER, Samuel24M
BAKER, Dovey17F
BAKER, Daly B4mos.M
As I mentioned, several of the Bakers migrated to Buncombe County.I am in the process of trying to tie some of this together.
It appears Davenport Baker's parents ended up in Buncombe.
1860 Buncombe NC Census
BAKER, Thos78M W(Was an NC State Senator)
BAKER, Susanna78F W
Note: Some of the ages are not consistent, but the names tie together very strongly.
If anyone can add to this, please reply.
