Cornelis Bakker 1882 Grand Rapids
Before my grandmother died, she told me that the Bakkers moved to Grand Rapids (they embarked for America during april 1889) and that some of themlater moved to South Africa. My ancestor Cornelis Bakker (born in Kollum, Friesland, 11 June 1852) along with his wife, sons and daughters (including my great grandfather Hendrik Bakker (also born in Kollum, 28 September1883) settled here in South Africa. Cornelis was married to Aafke Meersma (born on 16 August 1858). Can anyone supply me with information about their stay in America and the reasons for the immigration (first from the Netherlands, then to South Africa)? I was also told that some family members stayed behind. Who were they?
Kind Regards
Lizette
