If you have a picture of Prairie Bird, I would love to have a copy.I have read about her for so many years.I believe her's and Wing's names came from the book "The Praire-Bird" by Hon. C.A. Murray published in London by George Routledge & Sons Broadway, Ludgate Hill New York: 9 lafayette Place no date but hand written 1889 in front. It is a novel and has a character Wingamond in it. I have to believe that Mary Jane had heard about this book or even read it in the log school she attended at New Salem. It is so sad she had to die so young.
I live in Illinois and would be glad to send cost of a copy if you have pictures of Birdie.I know she was buried in the cemetery at New Salem but there is not a stone. Thanks for getting back in touch.Regards, Judy PS Mary Jane was brother to Hardin Bale, my g.g.g grandfather. It is interesting that you had a relative who died in Stockton.Hardin and Mary Jane's sister Elizabeth Watkins died in Stockton.
