My Grand Grandfather Vincentas Balkus (died 1940), had large family through his two marriages (15 +- children). My grandfather Jonas Balkus (born 1912, died 1994) was the eldest from his second marriage. Before 1945 family lived in the village Valinciai, which is now right on the border of Lithuania -Poland (Punsk area in Poland, Mariampole region in Lithuania). They were forced to move deeper into Lithuanian teritory, when Soviets were building border. About 15 years ago I came across interesting document - testament of Vincentas (Vincas) Balkus, regarding family farm in Valinciai. There was mentioned that 6 sons from his previous marriage had left for America at the break of 20 century. I can recall that one`s name were Andrius (Andrew). Later, I had heard that some of my Balkus relatives had visitors from south America (Spanish speaking), lady who was daughter of one of the brothers, and her children. Unfortunately, that is all I know about these six Brothers who went to Americas around 1900. Since my parents divorce I`ve not been in regular contacts with my wide Balkus relatives here, and for more accurate data it might be interesting to see more of them - especially older ones. But I`m very keen to learn more about destinies of these Balkus brothers. Three of my grandad`s brothers were killed in guerilla war against soviets in late 40-ies (Dominykas, Kazimieras and one more). Two other names I remember - Pranas & Motiejus. As I have heard - Pranas has died recently. Few years ago died my grandad`s sister Roze (Rose), who I believe was the youngest from grand grandfathers first marriage. Hope message is not too complicated, but I`d be pleased to hear from someone who is same keen to solve this puzzle.
