Ballenger Born in Spartanburg District, South Carolina and enlisted on December 12th, 1861.Wounded in Battle of Seven Pines on May 31, 1862 and admitted to St. Charles Hospital, Richmond, Virginia.Died June 16, 1862 at age 22.Deceased claim filed by his father John Ballenger.He and Jasper were brothers (2).
Jasper Ballenger Born in Spartanburg District, South Carolina and enlisted September 9, 1861.Killed at Malvern Hill on July 1, 1862 at age 37 (2).Deceased claim filed by his widow Sarah.John and Jasper were Captain David Ballenger's cousins.
Captain David Ballenger On sick leave early 1862 and reported back to duty August 17, 1862 and promoted to 2nd Lt. Put in command of Company from August 17, 1862 to March 31, 1863 with promotion to 1st Lt. when Rector resigned in November 1862.Promoted to Captain when Taylor killed at Chancellorsville May 3, 1863.Hit six times at Gettysburg without drawing blood.Granted leave due to problems at home on August 19, 1863.Returned after 24 days. Resigned his commission on October 12, 1863.Signed up with Hampton's Legion of South Carolina shortly after and served till end of the war.Lived in Tigerville, South Carolina by April 8, 1888 (7).
