Army at or before the opening of the war with England in 1812. He was a Sergeant in the Co. commanded by Capt. Thomas S. Seymour, belonging to the 25th Regt. Inft. of the regular army. His health at length fatally declined, and he made his Will at Sackets Harbor, N. Y., bearing date Jan. 26, 1815. He soon after d. there at a date not precisely specified. His Will was found by one of our researchers, Rev. Anson Titus, recorded in the Surrogate's office, New York city, Vol. 53, p. 62. We have it verbatim, but our pages are too crowded to insert it in full. It provides specially for the remuneration of Dr. Daniel Barney, his physician, and Mr. Daniel Pierce, who had kindly ministered to him in his sickness. They were to be amply compensated out of his estate, even if the whole should be required to do it; provided the Government did not pay their charges. But if Government paid them, or if anything remained beyond meeting his just indebtedness, he bequeathed all such remainder to his brother-in-law, Reuben Miller, of Cumberland, R. I.

We have scanned our letters and papers relating to this cousin, hoping to find a brief account of his youthful experiences, and especially of his medical education. But either we have overlooked it, or never received it. His letters and our correlative information all show that he is a man of good natural abilities, creditable erudition, and successful practice as a physician; also a gentleman of high toned character and reputable standing. He practiced his profession in St. Albans, Vt., from Mar. 1839, to Mar. 1859; then removed to Burlington, Vt., and practiced from Mar. 1859, till June, 1861; then left Burlington for the seat of war with the 2d Regt. Vt. Vols., as its Surgeon; was in the Army of the Potomac till Jan. 1863; pursued his profession in Mechanicsville, N. Y., till 1881; and finally settled down in Lansingburg, N. Y., his present medical and family home.

Kind hearted, honest, well disposed people. There have been marriages, births and deaths in this family, of which we have failed to obtain specification. Also one or two grandchildren, whose names have escaped us. Nor have we succeeded in getting reports concerning the four remaining children of Ezekiel Ballou6, with such particularity as enables us to add anything of value to what is given in their father's family record.
