The Balvin family is well represented in
the area of Tyndall South Dakota in the U.S.
My great grandfather, Joseph Balvin, was a farmer in the Tyndall area for many years.
There are still Balvins living in the Tyndall
area. My grandfather, Romain Balvin lives in
Redlands CA. Romain and my grandmother Lillian (deceased 12/74)had six children.
Robert died at the age of two. Richard (who is my father} lives in Aurora CO. Delores, Bernard and Denise all live in Washington state. Roger lives in the state of Oregon.
I have three brothers and one sister. Peter
and Leah both live in Aurora CO. Timothy lives in Pleasanton CA., and Richard Jr.
lives in Mora MN. I live in Boise ID. with
my wife Lisa and our two children Joe Jr.
and Jenna.
I have always recieved comments about the
Balvin name being unusual. I have heard in
the past that it originated in France and
was originally spelled Balvinova. My ancestors emigrated from Bohemia near the turn of the last century. I have a Bosnian
friend who tells me that he knew Balvinova's
in Bosnia and that they pronounce it Balvin
with the ova being silent.
I would like to hear from other Balvins and
try to find links between what appears to be
various scattered family groups. It is an
unusual name with clouded origins and it
would be interesting to find out why our
ancestors left Eastern Europe and scattered
all over the U.S.
