NEW LONDON, IOWA
Mrs. Bernice Everlee Calloway, 76, suffered a fatal heart attack at her home in New London, Iowa Thursday, November 14, 1973.
She was a native of Kentucky and was born February 2, 1897, the daughter of Melvin and Esther Woodford Banker. She was married to William Ritchey at Moulton, IA on August 31, 1919.Mr. Ritchey died June 7, 1943, and she was married to Orlan L. Calloway at Elliott on October 13, 1946.
Mrs. Calloway was a member of the United Methodist church and the Senior Citizens.
Surviving:The husband, two daughters, Mrs. Arnelda Peterson, St. Louis, and Mrs. Gyrtha Everlee Brandt, Fort Madison, Iowa' three stepsons, Rex Calloway, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Ronald Calloway, Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Two brothers. Walter Banker, Kansas City, Mo., and Adriance Banker, Red Oak, Iowa. Two sisters, Shirley Banker and Mrs. Ruth Johnson, both of Couincil Bluffs, Iowa; 19 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral:Elliott Chapel at 2 p.m. Saturday.Rev Edward Philgreen; Burge cemetery, New London, Iowa.A memorial has been established.
Gyrtha Everlee Brandt is my mother.She died September 25, 1993 at Fort Madison Community Hospital in Fort Madison, Iowa. She was 73 years.She got her first name from her grandmother. Gyrtha Ritchey.
Didn't realize Melvin and Esther had so many kids.My grandmother never talked about them, although, when I was around 16, we had a family reunion at Red Oak, Iowa and the only person I remember was Shirley.If I was into genealogy back them like I am now I would have gathered information.
