Hello George, Still here! Could you provide a little more information? I don't have any Bannatyne family with those names on my Blackwaterfoot family tree, and, since Peter Bannatyne is not a common Bannatuyne name on Arran or Bute, thought I would check that one at Scotlands People. Here are the results:
Year Surname Forename District City/County/MR GROS Data 1879 BANNATYNE PETER PARTICK GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 646/02 0815 1888 BANNATYNE PETER ST GEORGE EDINBURGH CITY/MIDLOTHIAN 685/01 0382 1895 BANNATYNE PETER SHISKINE/BUTE 554/02 0008 1896 BANNATYNE PETER ST GEORGE EDINBURGH CITY/MIDLOTHIAN 685/01 0393
Presumably, if any of these Peter Bannatynes are yours, it's the 1895 one born in Shiskine. So I tried the 1901 census, and found him, still in Shiskine: BANNATYNE, PETER (Census 1901 554/02 002/02 009).
So I purchased the census page. The family in 1901 comprised: James Bannatyne, Head, 48 years, shoemaker, and Isabella his wife, 54 years, and children Catherine 12 years, Neil, 10 years, George, 8 years, Peter 5 years, and Mary Isabella, 1 year. My guess is that this is your family and that your grandfather came later. Wife Isabella was born Co. Derry, Ireland, and the others in Kilmory.
So, I checked for the marriage of James Bannatyne and Isabella, and found: 1887 BANNATYNE JAMES HILL ISABELLA KILMORY /ARGYLL 554/00 0002. So I purchased the marriage register page. This shows that James was the son of Neil Bannatyne, shoemaker, and his wife Catherine (maiden name McAllister), and Isabella the daughter of George Hill (who might be named after him?) and his wife Eliza (maiden name Dale). Then I ran out of credits. And the parents were married before 1855 anyway, if James was born in 1853/4.
I am sorry, but I can't find Neil and Catherine Bannatyne on my family tree, but will check the records I have at home.
I will try sending the copies of the documents to your old email address from 2003, but if you have changed it, send me an email with your new address.
