My grandmother was a "Thames", it is found spelled, Teams, Tames, Theames and even-Tims-Timms on the census.Depends on which state you live in as to how it is pronounced, so therefore the spelling difference. You are right a rose by any other name is a rose, a rose, a rose.
Now, having said that, I am seeking info on a Mattie Bearfield, Barefield/Barfield. Spelled Bearfieldon the marriage certificate dated 24 Dec 1899.She married Samuel C. Thames in Campbell County, GA , now Fulton County, GAI think they had one child, either Ray or Roy.Do not know. Have never been able to find anyone that knew them as Samuel died in 1922.I know where they are both buried-and that is all.Mattie most likely remarried as he died abt 23yrs after marriage. Would you happen to know anything about this person. She was born abt 1878 in Clayton County according to info. Thanks for a reply
