I've just found a document at the old court house of Monroeville, Alabama. This document is a petition of transfer of Trust from Alabama to Mississippi on behalf ofthe petitioners, REBECCA MITCHELL and her two children, ELIZABETH ANN MITCHELL and LEWIS B. MITCHELL.
These three inherited the estate of ELIZABETH BARGE of Robison County, NC possibly in the early 1830's.The Will was in the form of a Trust. And it appears that the Trust had to be held by a Trustee from one state to another. Now the family were moving to Mississippi and trying to get this Trust transfer approvedby the Chancery Court of Alabama to the Chancery Court in Marshall County, Mississippi.
The MITCHELL family had moved to Monroe County, Alabama possibly in the early 1830's and the MCCLURE'S who lived in Lancaster County, SC arrived in that county in 1827.ELIZABETH ANN MITCHELL, married JAMES MCCLURE in 1837 in Monroe County, Alabama.
ELIZABETH BARGE is a new name for me.I want to know how she was related to my MITCHELL ancestor, REBECCA?Was she a sister to REBECCA, or perhaps an aunt? Was she married and a widow at the time of her death or was she a spinster? If a spinster, perhaps my ancestor, REBECCA MITCHELL, was a BARGE.I'm very interested in knowing the maiden name of REBECCA MITCHELL. who married JAMES MITCHELL.
In the 1850 census of Lafayette County, MS, REBECCA is living with her daughter and son-in-law, JAMES and ELIZABETH MCCLURE.Both REBECCA and ELIZABETH give their brith place as North Carolina.
Any one who might be familiar with this family, I'd like to communicate with you.Or any suggestions on where to look for this infromation will be very helpful and appreciated.
