John Barlow, b. approx 1850 is my 2x great grandfather. He was a tailor & married Elizabeth Wheelhouse in April 1871 in Oldham, Lancs.Based on their marr. cert, John's father was also called John whose occupation was "Carrier".I have no clue as to John's mother's name.
John & Elizabeth had the following children: Harold - my great grandfather b. 1803 Stockport m. 1903 to Ethel Jones d. sometime prior to 1935
Valentine 1872-1910 (marr. Robert White in 1893) Lilly b. 1873 (note: birth cert shows "Lilly" but other docs show "Lily") George Frederick b. 1876 (perhaps marr. Sarah ??) Florence b. 1881 Ernest Hellowell b. 1885 (other poss spelling - Hallowell)
I'm hoping someone can help me go back a little further with the Barlows & find out John's (the one b. 1850) mother's name, or some of his sibling's names.....I am stuck & there seem to be a lot of possibilities!I was hoping that one of his parents would perhaps live with one of their children in the later years, but it doesn't seem so.
Question #2: Harold, who married Ethel Jones in 1903, had a son, Leonard in 1907.Leonard was my grandfather - married Lilian Woodward in 1935 but then he died in 1950 when my mother was quite young.I have no info on Leonard's family either...it looks like Ethel (age 26) & Leonard (age 3) may be in the home of William & Louisa Smith on Springfield Ave. in Cheshire in 1911 - they are the right ages; however, it says that Ethel is the daughter of William & Louisa & I know that she was born Jones, so there's my quandary! I have no idea if Leonard had any siblings & it would be nice to know if my mother has some aunts & uncles she doesn't know about.
As noted, Ethel is a big question as well - her parents were John Henderson Jones & Agnes (nee Pogson). Her mother died in 1885, when Ethel was only 1.....it looks like Ethel was adopted so I "lose" her between 1884 & 1903 when she married Harold - I may never know about those years, but if you have any info there, it would be great to fill in the blanks.
Thank you in advance - any help would be greatly appreciated :-)
