Dave - thanks for the contact; it's well over two years since I posted that message and I had completely forgotten it was still out there!
I'm still plodding away at my BENBROOK/BARNBROOK theory. I now suspect that both names are corruptions of BOURNBROOK, near Selly Oak.
I'm afraid that, although I have a note of the people you mention, I'm unable to shed any light on either family. It's certainly a tempting thought, but a great deal of my data is an extract from the IGI and is still waiting for some time to give it closer analysis. It will be a long haul - a quick check this morning revealed that I have a file of 264 people with either name and other variants in Warwickshire alone. Then there are the 156 in Worcestershire...
I'd be very happy to share what I have with you. Can you email me off-list? You should see my address if you click on my name at the top of this message.
Regards,
Howard Benbrook
