Hello, I'm looking for info. about S.W. (Samuel William) Barnes and his family in the Grimsby, ON area. He was born between 1798-1801 in or near Birmingham, England. He departed from Liverpool in 1846 with his family aboard the ship Columbus. They arrived in New York City on Nov. 19, 1846 and the passenger list reads as follows: S.W. Barnes, age 45, Occupation: Merchant. Mrs. Barnes, age 29, George, 18, William, 17, Henry, 15, Jane, 13, Betsy, 10, Harry, 8, Samuel, 7, William S., 5, and Susannah, 2. I don't know whether he left behind any children in England and whether all of these are in fact his children or some nieces or nephews. I know he was married twice, so I'm guessing this is his second wife given the large age gap. His first wife was Elizabeth White, and second was Prudence Warren. First, they lived in Blandford, Oxford Co., ON in the 1850s and sometime in the 1860s they moved to Grimsby. S.W. was a farmer in Canada and had two more children in Canada, Helen and Charles in the early 1850s. With the exceptions of daughter Betsy, my ggggrandmother, marrying William Phipps in 1863, and son William S. being killed in an explosion at a Grimsby plant in 1912, I don't know anything about any of the other children. Any help greatly appreciated and I hope this info. helps someone. Thanks.
