James Barr 1753-1838 New Monument unveiling Aug 23rd, 2014
At long last, the descendants of the Rev War Soldier James Barr have bought a memorial stone and have a DAR marker which will be unveiled at a ceremony at Brannon's Cemetery, Back Creek District, WV.
James Barr b 1753 PA, soldier of Sussex, NJ, who removed to Winchester, VA about 1798 and had a farm at Back Creek Valley on Brannon's Run, had many children and descendants. He also served as a Fifer for VA in the War of 1812. He died in 1838 at his farm in what was once Frederick Co., VA, then WV, then changed to Berkeley Co., WV.
Right now, I do not have a time for the ceremony. I will be coming and plan to take part by speaking some of the words of James, from his application letter written in 1834 for his pension. He described his experience very well, telling about the troop movements, the battles with the British, hisfirst meeting with General George Washington, and his continuing service as a Orderly Sgt.
His documented children were:
Mary Barr 1778 m John Allison
