Thank you for your message.Going through your notes by item:
¡§I have John married to Mary Ann Harwood 22-10-1822 They appear to have had 7 children before she died¡¨
This John BARRELL is not related to mine.John BARRELL and Mary HARWOOD had, as far as I know, ten children:John (born 1823/died 1824,Mary Ann born 1825, John born 1827, Sophia born 1830, George born 1834, Thomas born 1837, Philip b 1839, Henry born 1824, Frederick born 1844 and Mary Ann born 1847.The 1841 Census shows the family living in Rougham although the birth date of Mary Ann does not reconcile. Also liviing in Rougham with the family is William BARRELL, aged 85, presumable John¡¦s father.Dorothy JOYCEY, currently living in Queensland is a descendant of Thomas who came to Australia in 1857.
¡§I then have John (W) married to Mary Ann Pollard 28-11-1841 with 5 children¡¨
John BARRELL (widow) married Mary Ann POLLARD on 28 November 1841 in the Parish Church of Thurston. The marriage certificate gives John¡¦s father as Isaac BARRELL and Mary Ann¡¦s as John POLLARD.I only have a record of two children born to John and Mary Ann.They are Arthur, born 1843 in Tostock, and Simeon, my maternal great-grandfather, born on 8th July 1851.The 1851 shows John, Mary Ann, Arthur and John POLLARD, aged 64 and presumably Mary Ann¡¦s father.Mary Ann would have been well and truly pregnant with Simeon but I guess that would not show up in the census.I would be grateful if you could supply the names of the other three children and the source of the information.
Arthur married Emma COCKSEDGE and produced four children in Tostock (Esther Martha, Mary Ann, Arthur John and Amelia Harriet) before moving to Manchester (Flixton) where they produced Emma, Simeon William and Annie. These last three you put me onto the last time we communicated.
¡§There are no other likely candidates so I believe they are the same John in both cases¡¨
I have records of the following marriages:
„Ï John BARRELL and Mary MARRIOT, married on 16th November 1817 at Tostock (PR & IGI); „Ï John BARRELL and Elizabeth STURGEON, married on 29th March 1821 at Hessett (IGI); and „Ï John BARRELL and Mary HARWOOD, married on 22nd October 1822 at Rougham (PR & IGI).
Mary HARWOOD we have eliminated above.Elizabeth appears in both the 1841 and 1851 Censii (censuses?? - I dont know)living in Rougham. There remains Mary MARRIOT as the likely contender but I cannot be certain at this stage.I am, however, trying to find the parents of John¡¦s father, Isaac BARRELL.The only acceptable reference I can find is to John BARRELL, son of Isaac BARRELL and Hannah BAKER.I am trying to confirm this relationship and, of course, find the parents of Isaac.
Isaac and Hannah had five children: -Isaac, John, William, Fanny and James.Isaac married Lucy AUSTEN.The others I know nothing about.
¡§I have Isaac born 1769 living with Job (his son?) on the 1841 census at Rattlesden.I cannot find Isaac on the 1851 census.¡¨
This Isaac intrigues me.I can find no record of the birth of a Job BARRELL to an Isaac BARRELL.Could it be that James BARRELL and Job BARRELL are one and the same.
¡§I have Isaac born 1806 (a shoemaker) also at Rattlesden 1841 census¡¨
This Isaac I do not have but I do not know how he fits into the equation.
