Hi Jennifer,
Thanks for the response...Your ggggrandfather was instrumental in freeing my ever-so gggg grandmother and her four children from the hands of her "spouse's" sons-in-law.
Jinny was owned by John Sunday of Pensacola, and according to oral tradition served as a nurse to his ill wife Barsheba. After Barsheba's death, John Sunday and Jinny lived together and produced four children, Harrison (my ggg grandfather), Amanda, David and John, Jr.As a gift to Jinny, John filed manumission papers with the courts setting Jinny and her children free upon his death.
John was murdered by a slave named Adam, who quite possibly committed the crime at the instruction of one or more of John and Barsheba's sons-in-law.Despite the manumission papers, the sons-in-law held Jinny and the children against their will after John's death.
Your gggg grandfather appeared before the court on Jinny's behalf and secured her freedom.Later, the sons-in-law charged Sebastian with adultry for living with Jinny. The charges were not upheld.
So you see, that I am very interested in Sebastian Barrios, and would love to know more about him...One of my distant relatives in Pensacola says that he and John Sunday were friends.I wonder if you know anything about his activities...and his wife/children.I have never seen reference to his family, but then I just started poking around!
Thanks, Sheila
