I am orginally from the Bayou Lafourche area of Assumption Parish in Louisiana. I am a direct descendent of Manuel Barrios. My grandmother on my father's side maiden name was Luicelle Barrios.Members of her family did a 20 year reseach into the ancestory of Manuel better known as "the little soldier"
Several volumes of the family tree were published. My sister who lives in Harvey, La.
says that the New Oleans Public Library has a volume in its reserse reading section. Manuel lineage is very, very interesting. His lineage was traced back to King Alphonso of Spain who had an illegitamate child with a lady in waiting. The child's name was Teresa, who became his favorite child. He later gave the land of what is now Portugal to Teresa and her husband Count ?? (can't remember) and Portugal eventually evolved into a country.Manuel is buried in Plattenville, Louisiana. The published volumes were not published through a publisher but rather crudely zeroxed and given to various family members. I have one copy which traces the family from the 1970's
to Manuel's arrival in Louisiana. He was a corporal in the Spanish army.
