Thomas Barsh my great-great grandfather and grandmother are Buried at Zion Rest Church along with my great granfather William Oliver Johns and my great-grandmother Ella Theodocia Barsh Johns. Also buried there are Thomas Barsh's sons Bert and Brince.
Now here are the names of some of Thomas Barsh's children, (according to my mother, who's name by the way is Margie Johns Herren):George, David, Bert, Brince, Ella Theodocia, Bob or possibly Robert, Emma, Janie, Sissy and Sarah. My mother said there may be more that she doesn't remember.
Mama said Bert was married to Etter(Burdett?) Their children were Hoyt and Earl Barsh. My Great-grandmother, Ella Theodocia and Oliver Johns' children were William Corneilous(my grandfather), Nora, Theodocia Odessa refered to as Aunt Sister and Aunt Jimmie. Bob had a son, Byrl, who is buried at a church on the Cleburne/Randolph County line. Sissy married a Thomas Bailey.Sarah also married a Bailey.
Everyone I think remembers Uncle Brince Barsh. My mother said he was a hard working man who was a bachelor and had made quit well for himself, but when his mother died he became depressed, then his twin brother,Bert moved off, and Brince began to drink heavily and lost everything he had worked for.She said he would constantly call for Bert.He roamed from relative to relative, often sleeping in old abandoned houses between. He is discribed to have had a long beard and mustache and a nasty tabacco habit. She said he finally wound up in Tuscaloosa in the mental institution, where he died. There was some speculation that he may have been mistreated there and his death not an accident.
I hope to be able to put some dates with these names later on.Might visit the cemetaries soon.
