I just hope you are still on line and interested in discussing your Barth family because I am now feeling lucky. Years ago I was enabled to trace my own German ancestry back in time to some of the ancestors who lived in the late 1500s and in the last few years have been attempting to find as many of their descendants in America and Europe as possible. Here is what I believe based upon some recent study. Frank Barth son of Jacob Barth (jr) and Mary, was born in Illinois. Both of his parents were born in New York. If you read the birth places of his parents and their parents in all the census records for them I think you will find that Frank's father was born in France as was his mother Mary. Barth is basically a German name and can be found spelled as Beard, Bard, Bart etc. Frank also had two older brothers, George W. and Willis. I believe that Frank's father Jacobwas son of Johann Jacob Barth who was born 26 Dec 1797 in the village of Schopperten which is actually located adjoining to the larger town of Keskastel. These are two of the approximately 36 or slightly more towns or villages located in what in present day is known as the western most portion of the French Department (equal to our state) of Bas-Rhin, France. (almost directly south of Saarbrücken, Germany. The older Johann Jacob Barth was married 19 Feb 1827 in Keskastel to Eva Margaretha Philippi, d/o Johann Adam Philippi and Eva Margaretha Reeb. (my distant kin).
Please respond to this post soon if you can and also please respond to me direct to my e-mail address which can be found on this forum. Perhaps with your help we can prove the ancestry of your Barth ancestors at least a couple of generations back in European records and their Reeb ancestors back to 1597. John V. Reeb
