Even if it was 1777 he was unlikely to have been born in Nebraska which did not yet exist, which indeed, was not even under the control of the British or Colonials but the Spanish or French. Try New York especially in Albany, Columbia, and Ulster Counties.Bartles and its various spellings are of Dutch heritage.Reformed Church records (the Dutch Church) give some Bartels and Barthels and Bartles ( with or without that final 's' and sometimes with an 'o' instead of 'a').Some of them are online but the only Hendrick I spot in my list is aHendrick born in 1726 and another in one in 1796.Be aware that in the time period between the American Revolution and the end of the century that many Dutch families were starting to move west and were Anglizing their names so that Hendrick became Henry.
Of course there is the chance that your Bartels is a corrupted form of the English Bartell in which case he could have come from the Carolinas. You might just have to take the census and work backwards.
