The Basford's originally came to England in 1066 with Wm. the Conqueror. They were from Normandy, in France. (possibly of Viking descent) In repayment of their loyalty, Wm. gave them land and estates. The village of Basford is right outside of NOttingham and has a church there built by the Basford'sin the 1100's. (St. Leodagarius). Basford incidentally began as deBasford. Hope this helps.....cheers....Elizabeth Basford-Dixon
