Thomas Bate was youngest brother of Willam Samuel Thomas Bate and Mark Bate (in another post I said there were only 2 brothers, we forgot young Tom!) The body was not found, he was lost from his father's boat. We are looking through old documents, we believe we have a newspaper clipping somewhere.
Incidentally, William Bate senior's schooner, The Salamander, was run down by a steamer at sea 10 miles off Hartland Point in 1879 when carrying a cargo of coal from Neath to Charlestown. She foundered immediately. Details of this in the Cornubian & Redruth Times of 5 Sept 1879
