Not sure if this will be of any help to you now, but I am descended from James Branham Battle the brother of Thomas William Battle - both being sons of Reverend Thomas Battle and Mary "Polly" Baker Battle.I received this from a cousin who has done extensive reserach on this family line:
"9. JOHN WILLIAM BATTLE, born May 10, 1826, was listed in the Monroe County census in 1850, as a farmer, 23, living with his younger brother James, plus 2 young men who served as overseers. He was also listed in the Monroe County, GA census in 1860.He was then 34 years old and a farmer with $8,000 in personal property, which was the value of his 9 slaves. Since no real estate was listed, he probably farmed his father’s land, since Thomas Battle was by then in his 70’s. It is not known if John ever married. He served in the Confederate Army, enlisting as a private on July 9, 1861. He served in Company A, 14th Infantry Regt. GA Troops. He was discharged on disability in 1862. He later moved to Texas—it is not known where, but it is possible that he lived near his brother Nicholas who was in Waco. His wife’s name is not known; no children.John died September 12, 1894 in Texas, aged 68"
