Dear Unrein, Larry, Grace, Peggy Wilson, Renea, Lisa, Linda, Jo Ann, Donna, Jane, and "all the ships at sea", someone, or some others, have again "read" something that was not there to read to begin with. Then, some "copiers" have added to the "story" by copying incorrectly, and copying from the incorrect "read", and thus have tried to invent someone, while killing off a true person. Par for the course, in this fun hobby of ours.
Nelson Battles (ca1790 Va - 1813 Ala), son of Noel William Battles (Rev War Vet) and Elizabeth Harper, married Rhoda Winton (1797 Tn - 1848 Ala) in Rhea Co Tenn in 1813, and moved to Alabama in 1818. She was the daughter of William Winton Jr and Catherine Denton.Among Nelson Battles and Rhoda Winton children were Martha, "unknown" male, Corrinda, Jefferson, Catherine, and Melissa C.There was one more child born before the last, Melissa C., and that was a son, and his name was JACOB WINTON BATTLES. His middle name was not "Marvin", "Milton", or what have you. He was named "Jacob" for Rhoda (Winton) Battles grandfather (Jacob Denton), named "Jacob" for Rhoda (Winton) Battles brother (Jacob George Winton), and named middle name of "Winton" to honor her own heritage.
There are multiple Alabama court records, documents, that clearly, and accuratly, record/list/document the name of JACOB WINTON BATTLES, and that clearly, and accuratly, record/list/document his relationship to Nelson/Rhoda.Some clue, also, might come from Forum 626, and 654.Happy Battles Hunting.Regards, Dick
