I am trying to trace details on my wifes great grandfather Thomas Batty born circa 1881 . Thomas Married Margaret Mary Ingram in 1910, in Croydon, Surrey at the age of 28 - she was 22. Thomas's father's name was William and Williams occupation (at the time of Thomas's marriage) was Clerk. Margaret and Thomas had a son Frederick Ernest born Dec 1916 (my wifes grandfather).
I believe that Thomas died in 1947 (Derby, UK) and the person who reported his death was his sister Louisa Batty.
Mystery surrounds this line as Frederick Ernest changed his surname to Worthington, or at least his mother did he never spoke of this. We believe that this was because his mother "remarried" a Thomas Worthington and had a son Edward. Fredericks last will and testament states that he was also known as Frederick Ernest BATTY - and in fact this is the only borth certificate we can find - all details match our records apart from the surname.
So far I have been unable to locate any more information on Thomas and so am at a dead end with this one - any help or new leads would be greatly appreciated.
