In the above posting, the children listed must be for Christian Baughman junior and Elizabeth Baer, not Christian senior. The date of birth for Christian senior is usually given as 1755 (or 20 Apr 1755) and for Elizabeth Schneble as ca. 1762.
Also I wonder if Christian junior was born in Germany. The baptism is witnessed by "John Schmelzer of Pennsylvania" and some sources claim that Johann Christian Bachman and a son Anthony arrived in Philadelphia on the ship Hope in 1753.If this is so, the later son Christian born in 1755 would have been born in PA, as well as the grandson Christian born in 1785.However other sources claim that the immigration was 1791 (did John Schmelzer of PA go to Germany to witness a baptism?).Is it possible two families are mixed up here?I tend to believe the earlier immigration and that the family settled in Pennsylvania earlier than often claimed.
My ancestor Hans George Bachman also came from Germany, but a bit earlier. His wife is believed to have also been a Schneble (various spellings). He was from Richterswil, Canton Zurich and his wife was also Swiss, but they had lived in the Pfaltz region of Germany.Does anyone know of a patrilineal descendant (Baughman name only through men) of Christian who might be willing to have his y-chromosome compared with several Bachmans who have already been tested? It would be interesting to see if this family shares ancestry with either the Canton Zurich or Canton Bern Bachmanns.See http://www.stanford.edu/~philr/Bachman/BachmanResultshttp://www.stanford.edu/~philr/Bachman/BachmanResults for further information on the Bachmann y-chromosome study.
