I am not a descendant of this family. However, I was reading an old genealogical column, "Our Keystone Families," by Schuyler Brossman (dated August 22, 1984, Section 2, Page 12) from the The Press And Journal newspaper (I think of Middletown, Pennsylvania), whichprovides some information about Leonard Baumgartner and his foster son, Thomas Chronemiller/Kronmiller.
Mr. Brossman noted that an article by Jonathan R. Stayer in the quarterly publication "Lancaster County Connections," edited by Gary T. Hawbaker, reported that Thomas Chronemiller changed his name to Thomas BAUMGARDNER, even though the pastor used his old name when he baptized three of Thomas' children as Cronmiller or Kronmiller. Thomas "was a foster son of Leonard Baumgartner, a private of the Beyreuth Regiment of German Troops who deserted in Oct 1781 and joined the Americans. His mother was Margaret Dinkle whose sister, Gertrude, also married a German soldier, Peter Englemohr."Mr. Brossman referred the reader to Jonathan Stayer's article in "Lancaster County Connections," edited by Gary T. Hawbaker of Hershey, PA. I don't have any further information about this family.
