My father's research into our family tree has taken him back to the late 1500's. It appears that our name has changed over the years and that some ancestor's names had a variety of different spellings. Commencing with John Beakelle/Beackely (1570) the names recorded were Beckley, Beakly, Beagle, Beakle, Beakley, Beagley, Bagley (and other variations) until in the late 1700's Begley became the accepted spelling for our family name, with the occasional use of Beagley up to 1851. The vast majority of our ancestors lived in Rutland and Leicestershire in England. This information may help others in their research or give my father some new leads to follow. Please contact me with any queries.
