In Belgium we have the Flanders Field American Cemetery at Waregem. Here lies about 368 U.S solders who died in WW1. So is Sgt. Joseph W. Beattie (1898 - 1918).
Sgt. Beattie lived in Brooklyn, NY (363 Henry Street) with his mother Eleanor (Ellen) Beattie and his 3 sisters: Florence, Eleanor and Lilian. He followed the St. Peters Academy and was vice-president of the Sacred Heart Club.On May 8th 1916 (he was only 18) Joseph joined the 23rd Infantry Regiment New York National Guard.
