Yes, there are still many Beauchemins in Sorel. Up until about 10 years ago the island where my father now lives was owned by Beauchemins. It was real weird: People owned their houses but didn't own their land. The land belonged to the Beauchemin family (i.e.: The WHOLE island).
The Beauchemin name was very popular in the Quebec culture back in the '70s when Radio Canada aired a T.V. show called "Le Survenant" which was based from a book written by a local author; Genvieve Geuvremont. Some older folks in Quebec still remember the "Survenant". I don't think much of the original T.V. footage of that show even survived. I have seen some extracts but never saw an entire episode myself.
Here's something interesting: You may have cousins in St-Charles, Mississouri you didn't know about. Follow this link: http://www.rootsweb.com/~qcrichel/00001250.HTMhttp://www.rootsweb.com/~qcrichel/00001250.HTM and you can follow the trail all the way back to Paul Hus (Beauchemin ancestor).
