My ancestor Thomas Ray sold 310 acres to Richard Beckerdite (or his son) for $275. The transaction was recorded 01 Jan 1817 in Randolph County Deed Book 13, p. 151.The land was bounded by Ansel Pearce, ___ Wray, Adam Whisenhunt, Amos Tucker, and Thomas Tucker.
The 1830 Census, Randolph Co., 1st Regiment, shows bothRichard Beckerdite and Richard Beckerdite, Jr. The latter is on the line below Adam Wisenhunt, on a page with multiple Rays and Pearces, Amos Tucker & Barnabus Tucker. This indicates to me that Richard Jr was in posession of the former Ray land in 1830.
The 310 acre parcel of land that Thomas Ray sold Richard Beckerdite in 1817 was on the Uwharrie (spelled various ways). Other watercourses mentioned in deeds associated with neighbor Ansel Pearce/Peirce are Jackson's Creek and Caraway Creek, both tributaries of the Uwharrie, which join that river about 7 miles WSW of Ashboro. The area where the three named streams are close together is in Concord township, perhaps the prime candidate location for the Ray/Beckerdite land.
Does anyone have any other information on the location of this parcel?
