Hello Philip, My family name is Beddow (my first being Sean). Though my family hasn't really kept track of their history I would like to share what little that has been passed down to me. From what my family can remember our forefathers came from Whales originally. At some point they moved to Ireland and from there to America. They first came to New Orleans and slowly migrated up the Ohio river valley. They settled in many different states such as Texas, South Dakota, and eventually reaching New York. My family is from the New York branch and were farmers up until the 1960's. My immediate family moved to Florida about 20 years ago and we have been here ever since. Little bits of information I also have...Beddow's fought on both sides of the Civil war, the most notable ones were in Texas on the Confederate side. The only time the family name ever appeared in the media was in the "Any which way but lose" series of movies from the 70's. Clint Eastwood plays a Character named Filo Beddow. Not much of a historical reference but it is nice know. I don't know if any of this is useful but I plan to try and find out more if I can. Please keep me posted on the book! It is hard to find any historical reference since it is such an uncommon name around the states (there are probably whole villages named Beddow in Whales).
