Hello Sarah,Vincent and Anna were my Great-great grandparents. Here is the information that I have...
Vincent was born April 15 or 16, 1861 in Cerma, Bohenia, Austria. He was marred to someone in Czech but she died.He remarrieded to Annie Matejcek and they came to the US.In the 1900 census, it shows that they were married ro 12 years.
Vincent and Anna had 6 children.. Adolph Julius (AJ) B 7-12-1890 in Czech. (my relative) Vlasta Vogt (Mrs Otto from Shiner, TX) Annie Halamicek (Mrs Edward from Gonzales, TX) Lillie Motal (Mrs Louis from Corpus Christi, TX)(half sister - burried in Corpus) Robert Bednar D 12-1954 Bessie English (Mrs Rudolph from Corpus Christi, TX) B 12-24-1894 and D 10-28-1918 (half sister burried in Shiner Cath Cemetery next to Vincent)
Vincent and Anna came to America in 1893 at Ellis Island. He was 32 years old them. They lived in Praha (close to Flatonia, TX) then moved to Shiner in 1897 where he started Bednar Furniture. He later sold it to AJ (his son, my great grandfather)
I have copies of the obituaries of Vinc W. Bednar and Anna Bednar.I also have copy of th 1900 census in which family is listed with age, sex. birth date, occupation or trade, yr to US &place of origin.I will be glad to send you copy.I have been to the grave sites and their tombstones are in Czech.I will be glad to send you a photo of them if you like.
I have communicated with a lady named Pat Fowler who said that she has a lot of the Bednar geneology dating back to the 15th century to when the Bednar's first took their name (which means wood worker). She was unable to help me then because her mother recently had a stroke. That has been a few years ago.Maybe the timing will be better to reapproach her.
I live in Shiner and have seen dining furniture built by Vinc.He stamped the pieces.I would love to own them one day but they belong to a doctor and his family in town and don't think they are going to be giving them up any time soon.
Please email me back as I would love to know if some of this info helped you.
